Hazardous Areas: Dust Hazard in Food Processing Plant
A national food manufacturing company had completed an Area Classification assessment for their dust hazardous areas but did not have the resource to complete the associated Hazardous area equipment inspections. The installation predated ATEX and employed a variety of protection methods, mainly uncertified.
Inglewood Engineering completed the dust hazardous area equipment inspections and assisted the client with the range of non-conformance issues highlighted during the inspections. Some equipment had to be replaced but a sound case could be made for retaining much of the rest. This was formally documented in the required manner.
The client’s big concern initially was that compliance with DSEAR would mean complete replacement of equipment with certified equivalents. Thankfully this wasn’t necessary. The disruption to the business would have caused chaos and the costs been prohibitive.
